Beauty Bites!: Treat Your Skin To Some TLC
With the countless products promising a flawless complexion, it’s hard to find the right solution for your skin. Azra Rauff shares her favorite homemade facemask recipes to keep your skin looking it’s best.
Growing up with acne was not a pleasant experience. I was insecure, hated going out and most of my teenage years were spent testing out products that promised results.
Cleansing, toning and moisturizing on a daily basis seemed to help control my acne but the real lifesaver were homemade facemasks! Rather than spending all that money on products, which made promises they could not always deliver, these were cheaper, easier to make and the ingredients were mostly found in my kitchen cabinets.
My homemade facemasks are my go-to for breakouts, oily skin or just any form of TLC my skin desired. Over the years, I’ve tried and tested several homemade facemask recipes and here are a few of my favorites:
Avocado mask: Avocadoes are known for their rich oils and nutrients that help moisturize. This mask is great for dry and flakey skin.
Ingredients:
½ very ripe, soft avocado
¼ cup honey
Mash the avocado in a bowl, then stir in honey. Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes before washing off.
Oatmeal masks: Oatmeal works great for oily and sensitive skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Honey in the mask also helps cleanse and clear up the skin.
Ingredients:
• 1 tablespoon ground oatmeal
• 1 tablespoon yoghurt
• 1 teaspoon milk
Mix ingredients together and apply onto face for 10 minutes before washing off with cold water.
Egg White Mask: Egg white masks are full of collagen and protein to both rejuvenate your skin and keep it looking youthful.
Ingredients:
• 3 tablespoon plain organic yoghurt
• 1 egg white
Beat the egg white until it turns frothy and add yoghurt. Apply this mixture to face for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
Honey, cinnamon and nutmeg mask: This mask is great for acne-prone skin and helps reduce blemishes and soothe skin. The mask is gentle and is great for sensitive skin too.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Mix ingredients together and apply onto face for 10 minutes before washing off with cold water.
Turmeric Mask: This mask works on everything – sun spots, acne scars, brightens skin, reduces facial hair and more. It’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties make this mask perfect for any skin type.
Ingredients:
1 tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp flour
½ tsp yoghurt(for oily skin) or olive oil (for dry skin)
½ tsp honey
Mix ingredients and apply evenly on to face. Wash off with cold water after 20 minutes.
